Rules are the very basis of a sim. Without them, there would be no structure, no standards, and no direction! Below we list out rules that many of you have heard before but may be new for some. There are also a few unique to our sim! It is crucial to read over the information below so that we all, staff and players, can enjoy Lynnea to the fullest. Failure to abide by these rules can result in removal from the sim.
For information on geography and status of ownership and things on sim please see:
Rules regarding you as a player rather than you character or its creation. These are the sim's overall rules.
Uphold the sim's dress code. This is a Medieval Fantasy Roleplay sim. Visitors and players must be seen at all times in Medieval-themed clothing while in Roleplay areas.
General Etiquette: Please be respectful. Titlers should not list vulgar words including how "horny" you are or offensive terms. If you have something in your titler that is found offensive, we will ask it to be removed.
Games like Bloodlines, etc. are not permitted, nor are magic HUDs.
ALL non standard (swords, axes, furniture, basic armor) or questionable items must be approved via application before crafting.
Please do not cause major interruptions during events without Owner or the player throwing the event's permission. (such as randomly attacking during a non hostile event etc)
Faction Bases (castles, keeps, cities, etc) are open for raiding or bringing large groups in. However, this must be approved by the faction lead in question, and a time set to do so. Approaching one of these as a hostile mob would ultimately end in guards swarming and overpowering the group. Please remember, there are NPC guards and the like everywhere in Faction areas.
Visitors must wear an observer tag while exploring roleplay areas. The Tag can be found at our welcome center! Players must be a part of the main group, and have it or a tag from another CoL group active.
Chronicles of Lynnea does not allow the following; Furry Avatars (Exceptions are approved races and the Shirazi & Dragonkin race. Must be as realistic as possible.), Cartoonish Avatars, Anime heads, Child Avatars, Adolescent appearing less than 18+, or copyrighted characters from Media.
While Slavery is present within the world of Lynnea, slaves should not be leashed like pets or crawl half-naked behind their masters.
Chronicles of Lynnea does not support the overthrow of our OOCly chosen leadership. While we're open to plotlines and political struggle, please contact either the Sim Owner, Loremaster, or a Moderator before planning any sort of rebellion or revolt for plot and scene structure, and most importantly, permission.
Lynnea is not a sex sim. While intimacy is a healthy part of any relationship, please keep it between yourselves (i.e a Rental/Inn Room/Somewhere Private) and within Instant Messages. Public ERP should only be in approved areas (currently only the Siren's Tear Opium Den/Brothel in Idoreth). Nudity (non-stimulated genitalia) is allowed outside of the Public ERP Areas, just expect consequences if it "doesn't make sense" (a naked fae or barbarian makes sense, but a naked elf just wandering around might get questioned icly.)
Exaggerated, or Oversized Genitalia, (I.e not "natural" to the body size of the creature it is endowed to.) is not Permitted to be worn within the public confines of Lynnea's roleplay areas. What is shown 'behind closed doors' is permissable, but otherwise, does not fit within the 'image' the sim portrays.
Firearms are not permitted within Lynnea.
Rentals are private residences, and you should not enter, or idle within them without permission from the renter.
No translators may be used.
Due to administrative purposes, speaking in even fantasy languages must have a bracketed translation, before or after, in posts.
Please keep script counts under 150!
It’s recommended to state your status. If you are AFK or OOC; state so on a titler. However, camping is frowned upon. If you know you are going to be gone longer than fifteen minutes, move your avatar off-sim, to the Welcome Center, or to your private residence with an Away tag or title.
Out of Character chat should mainly be kept to player IMs. No gestures or music players are to be used on sim. Text talk is prohibited within roleplay posts, this includes, "Ur" "Lol" "Ttyl" and other abbreviations of that nature.
Please keep roleplay related to CoL on sim. Using group chat or randomly IMing players on-sim asking them to join you elsewhere is generally bad form and discouraged.
God-modding, Power-gaming, and Meta-gaming in CoL are completely unacceptable. Lynnea has zero tolerance for any of the listed and anyone brought forth with evidence of such will be banned.
"God-Modding" is when a player already describes the outcome of their action. For example saying you shoot someone in the face. It is up to the other player where the hit happens (you can aim at the face but it may hit them in the shoulder) and if dice are used, the hit or miss is determined by them. (Placement still determined by other player)
"Power-Gaming", a player can be described as a power-gamer if he or she presumes or declares that his or her own action against another player character is successful without giving the other player character the freedom to act on his or her own prerogative. They may also be a player who tries to force others to participate in role-playing they don't want to engage in. For instance, a player who unilaterally describes his character as doing something with (or to) another character that would usually require the other to play along — such as having a fight or a sexual encounter — is considered to be power-gaming.
"Meta-Gaming" is taking any information not provided ICly and using it in RP. For example, Player A sees that Player B is a shifter either via their profile or by tag-reading, and Player A’s character has an extreme hate for shifters. Though there is nothing in RP that would betray Player B’s race, Player A decides to attack and yell “Die, Shifter!” — this can be considered meta-gaming.
Rules regarding Roleplay structures, guildhalls, buildings, areas, and establishments.
Damage to any roleplay structures must be reported and approved. If you are going to sabotage a building or area within roleplay; alert the Lead of the Area, or, a Moderator before proceeding. We just want a heads up!
Burglary/Robberies are encouraged here! However; you must a. Contact the owner of the establishment before your roleplay and collaborate with them on how the scene should/might go, or b. If none is present during your attempts, please contact an online Lead or Moderator to help you with your scene. In either scenario, the owner/lead/person being stolen from needs to be informed of what has been stolen OOCly.
These are rules regarding your characters and their creations.
Players are allowed two characters per avatar. A character must either die or be inactive for three months before one of these slots open again.
We do not allow oversized or 'gigantic' avatars. If you're unsure about the size of your avatar, please contact a member of staff.
We do not allow player-made groups/factions and will not recognize them as official groups/factions on the sim.
Due to the vast world created for the sim and it's characters, CoL does not allow mention of other sims or real life places in Character backgrounds. If playing an already existing character (i.e Keeping a character from another sim and wanting to keep his or her history.), simply state that he or she is from 'distant lands' within the world rather than bringing in a place that doesn't exist in our setting.
Characters cannot be related to, directly associated with, or have extended interaction with Notable NPCs without permission. I.e, A Character cannot be the Brother, Lover, Sister, Wife, Distant cousin, Bestfriend, Royal Guard, Been gifted/given something from to/by the Kaiser of the Venuncian Empire.
Players with more than one character can not have them interact with each other directly or further the storyline of the other.
No character may be younger than their race's maturity age or older than 2000 years at character creation.
Unless your character has wings or a means of magical flight, flying is prohibited.
Reasonable Right to Life: Lynnea is a consent to kill sim, HOWEVER, immensely supports In Character Consequences for In Character Actions. What this means is, if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. Don't wander into the fire and expect not to get burned. Common sense. If you know there is a risk, acknowledge it, and proceed if you wish. You can die if all actions lead up to this. Do not cry to the administration!
The gestation period for IC pregnancies is 90 days (one month for each trimester). This is applicable to all races. If you do not wish to roleplay pregnancy, do not get your character pregnant!
With the exclusion of Fae (Unless otherwise stated, i.e Phoenixes), mixed (half/half) mythical humanoid races (Dwarves, Elves, Orc, etc.) are allowed. However, the offspring of said magical races would ultimately be sterile, almost as a mule or Zonkey would be in a biological aspect. Please limit yourself to two races if you intend to play a mixed-heritage character!
We have a material list! Please check here for the list of available resources, as well as how to obtain the more rare resources around Valesk.
Rules regarding Magic and Combat while roleplaying in Lynnea.
Combat scenes are meant to be fun. If you come up on a group, please ask permission to jump into the scene if you have come upon it. Once given permission(majority), wait one post round before attacking. You can not open up your post in any scene with an attack.
Dice though provided are not mandatory. Freeform is highly encouraged! Whichever you prefer is up to you. Dice are there to be used for tiebreakers, indecisiveness during character combat, or if needed in events/encounters. However, if a party cannot decide between dice or freeform, dice is to be used to, in the end, keep things fair. Please reach out to a player if combat would be more than 2v1 odds (2v1,3v2,4v3 etc). This does not include NPCS
Higher number rolled wins in dice, defender wins if a tie happens.
When using Magic or Mundane weaponry, there should always be a post dedicated to drawing/readying your weapon or 'weaving'/preparing your spell before attacking/casting as a common courtesy. You are free to swap between magic and weapons during combat, please just be realistic.
When casting AOE spells, take 2 rounds to prepare the spell, and then you may recast the same spell on all in that area each round as long as you do not have concentration broken (ie: someone knocks you on your ass)
Please Note: When casting larger, more powerful spells, to be mindful of your character's drain in arcana and that this may take more than 1 post to prepare. The more targets the spell effects, the longer it takes to cast and the more drained your character may feel, or suffer close to death, in the end.
Status effects: If a spell/weapon inflicts a status effect upon your character, you must roll above a 50 to beat it using the d100 dice. This roll is separate from the original defending roll. Meaning, after the initial round, rolling above a 50 would negate the effect. Status effects can only be used once per scene. Coatings on weapons are one use per application.
Common ailments and ways to react:
Sleep: Roll above 50 to wake up, otherwise; if you are attacked or shaken or a loud noise occurs you are free to wake up next round.
Poison: Roll above a 50 to allow your body to negate the poison. If poison remains active, you lose 1 HP per RL hour until you go to a healer.
Paralysis: Roll above 50 to regain full body movement and ability to attack (you are able to defend while paralyzed)
Confusion: Roll above a 50 to knock the cobwebs out of your head. Each round you are under the influence, you strike the person closest to you in chat range (friend or foe).
Channeled spells: If you are channeling a spell and are struck or interrupted (lose a roll against someone trying to interrupt you) you are interrupted.
Blessing/Damned/Enchantments on weapons last two weeks. They must be re-enchanted through roleplay each time. Otherwise, Custom Weapons must be approved for permanence. Custom enchanted items can be potentially approved using the Custom App. Enchanted items, like spells and all forms of items require two posts. First post to activate the enchantment, second post to use item.
Only 3 Enchanted and/or Poisoned items may be carried by a character at one time.
Each character is restricted to the consumption of up to 3 magical potions per day, with no more than 1 potion allowed to be consumed per scene.
During a combat scene, you are able to post one offensive and defensive action per attacker per round.
Exiting/Escaping should always be done with either a. Consent to Leave, i.e, establishing with your fellow roleplay mates that your character is defeated and will now hobble off to seek help or b. Attempting to Leave by Dice Roll.
To Attempt to Escape from Combat: The person wishing to flee makes an escape attempt post, then rolls for their attempt. Anyone willing/able to attempt to stop them tries to beat that roll. If the player attempting an escape rolls highest, they successfully escape. Please note that this is only possible before hitting 0 HP.
HP stands for Hit Points. This stands for how many hits your character can take before going down (aka passing out or tapping out of battle). HP is regained at the end of one week unless stated otherwise. Visiting a Healer and roleplaying your treatment will regain you +2 HP.
You may heal inside or outside of combat, magic or non-magic, regeneration or other ways but you never gain more than 2HP total in a 24 hour period.
If you reach 0 HP, you are severely injured and incapacitated/unconscious/unable to flee. Whether or not your character is captured at that point is up to the player(s) who bested you in combat. It's possible to die when hitting 0, but you're not required to kill your character just for being brought to 0 HP. Also note that being brought to 0 means your character is severely injured and will likely be feeling the effects of their injuries the next day!
Resurrection is only available to those with Admin permission. To seek this, please get with an owner and we will evaluate the character & its circumstances.
Yes! You may apply as a mundane animal (fox, dog, horse, cow, chicken, cat) and have all the abilities of that animal. Please note that while playing a sentient animal (or while shifted as a sentient animal), you cannot physically speak a language such as Common, Elvish, Abyssal, etc. Mundane Animals have (3) HP.
May my characters be accompanied by NPCs?
Sure! As long as those NPCs are Passive, meaning non-combative, you may have as many NPCs as you desire for your scenes!
What about Combat NPCs? Such as Guards? Or Summoned creatures?
We allow only one combative NPC at a time unless you're a Faction Lead with Guards. Faction leads are permitted to have Guards that can fight for them and help them escape, but this only gains you one additional NPC. To clarify, this means Faction Leads may only have two guard NPCs. NPCs have 3 HP.
Unless you are a faction lead, do not control faction NPCs. In the event that something happens within a faction area where guards would realistically respond, alert a Moderator or request a Storyweaver to control the guard NPCs.
Can my character have an NPC pet?
Of Course, you may have a pet! However, if you plan to use this pet for battle, it counts towards the one combative NPC policy and you may not use another unless you have that pet exit the scene.
Can this pet be physically represented as a prim follow me pet?
Yes. We allow follow me pets, but we ask that you have no more than two attached at a time.
We do not allow the use of Manticore pets due to copyright infringement.ALL copy written items and pets are not allowed.
The Time of Day on Sim & in Roleplay; Frequently Asked Questions.
How do I know what time it is in Roleplay? Everyone's timezones are different?
The sim runs on SLT [Second Life Time] and the time of day is dependant on that in Roleplay. So if it's 8 am SLT, it is 8 in the morning on The Island of Valesk.
I play a Vampire, what time does the sun set on sim?
The sun sets and rises on sim at 5 pm SLT and 6 am SLT. (CURRENTLY UNDER "WINTER" HOURS: Sunset @4pm SLT, Rather than 5.)
If you play a vampire character and these times inconvenience you, get creative and have him/her/them wear an enchanted item that cloaks them magically from the sun. This item must be available for attempted removal and must be worn to be active!
