These Mer are as warm in personality as is the water they swim in. Originating from the crystal blue depths of the Violetold Ocean, Coralen Mer are usually bright in color and fit right in with the tropical ecosystem swimming around them. Light and bubbly, they tend to be ditsy and charming but are the most beautiful of the Merfolk. They are talented singers and dancers, but one should tread lightly, for they will rob even the most distracted of their shinies.
Lumine or Luminetian Mer are those that dwell at the very bottom the ocean and many originate from the Great Sea. Rare and elusive, many have never surfaced and will never in their lifetime. Those that do tend to be socially inept or awkward, even aggressive as they are apex predators. Equipped with interesting body enhancements, such as bioluminescence, a lot of Lumine also secrete a poisonous mucus either from their tail's scales or additives such as spines. Their eyes are adapted to life in dark, otherworldly climates and many Lumine must shield their eyes in some form or another during the day.
Verl are an arctic race of Merfolk. Originating from Mune of the Dread Isles, as well as the deeps of The Frigid Ocean, these Mer tend to be as bitter as their waters. Ranging from dark to extremely pale complected, Verl can either horrify or entrap with their appearance. Some glitter like fresh fallen snow, others are beastly like the very tides that raised them. Verl Merfolk make use of whatever they are given, having no qualms with drowning innocents to make tools of their bones and food from their meat. They are proud scavengers, wicked hunters, and driven warriors.
Sirens are the ancient cousins of those listed above. They are the originals. A solely female race of Merfolk made and torn apart by Cryso and Aither's lovers' quarrel and feast upon flesh and blood to survive. Some in current times do not refer to themselves as Merfolk but others do. Many Sirens till this day resemble their ancestors, striking and alluring features, a powerful fish tail with scales ranging in color, but the most unique of all, a set of leathery wings placed perfectly at their hips. Though these wings are no longer able to give Sirens their once ability of flight, they use them for short glides over the water's surface and faster speeds while swimming or maneuvering. However, there have been many cases in recent times of Sirens being born without their trademark wings. These Merfolk are gifted spellcasters and are renown for their singing voices that lures their prey into a false sense of security.
Sirens are able to perform a Siren Song, which puts all within chat range into a relaxed state. Those who fail to resist are unable to feel threatened or belligerent for three post rounds.
Born from Cryso's bleeding heart, The Merfolk, a strong and fairly new race of people, live beneath the waterways of Lynnea. They have survived the most recent passage of time and have bore witness to several shifting of Eras. The Landers know very little of this mysterious race that lurks below the surface, nor of their secrets that they keep buried under the currents.
What is known is, the waters belong to the Merfolk. Every river, lake, and surrounding ocean are part of their watery kingdoms. Each Mer different in design, no two alike. Some with tails of fish, while others, tentacles of an octopus, or tendrils of jellyfish. Should one of these beautiful creatures be spotted, one might be wary of venturing too close to the water's edge as none know whether they are friend or foe.
